Botox

A game changer in the facial-aging game, BOTOX®, often described as the ‘fountain of youth,’ is used to treat the moderate to severe frown lines that set in over time, as we grow older. More specifically, frown lines on your forehead and crow’s feet at the edges of your eyes. These wrinkles become more pronounced over time, not only from furrowing your brow and squinting, but also from damage caused by free radicals in the environment, reduction of skin elasticity and collagen, courtesy of the aging process. Botox soothes out those facial lines by paralyzing or weakening the muscles that can cause frowning, squinting and other facial expressions.

BOTOX is derived from the bacterium, Clostridium botulinum, and consists of minute amounts of a highly purified botulinum toxin protein that has been refined. While originally developed to treat muscle disorders, the injectable was also found to be effective in reducing wrinkles and was approved in 2002 by the FDA for cosmetic use.

Regarded as the injectable that changed the beauty industry, Botox has become a household name. It is now available for cosmetic use in 78 countries around the world and is considered a routine skincare treatment.

Treatment & Results

Your provider will advise you on what areas on your face could benefit from BOTOX. When addressing your crow’s feet, three injections will be administered into the orbicularis oculi – the area that frames the side of your eye. When addressing your frown lines, your provider will make five injections into two muscle groups in your forehead. The first injection will be focused in the procerus muscles, the other four will be placed in the corrugator muscles.

The results you will receive after your treatment will be significant. You will notice results within 7-10 days for moderate to severe frown lines. Your results will last up to four months.

Post Care

Most patients report that receiving a BOTOX treatment is like experiencing a small pinch. If you are particularly sensitive, your provider may want to use some ice or topical numbing cream to desensitize the area being treated prior to injection.

The injection process will last approximately 10 to 15 minutes and does not require any post-procedural care. You will be able to continue with your daily activities immediately. Remember that BOTOX is not intended to change your overall appearance; it is intended to make pre-existing winkles less noticeable.
